The Alpen Lodge provides sleeping rooms with shared spaces in Helvetia, WV. The Alpen Lodge is located in the Kultur Haus Helvetia, the building which also houses the General Store, Post Office, and Mask Museum. One downstairs room and five upstairs rooms are currently available. While the upstairs sleeping rooms need little restoration, there is only one bathroom for six sleeping rooms. As funding becomes available, the area will be converted to four corner sleeping rooms, each with a private bath.

Helvetia, West Virginia is a small Swiss village in a high mountain valley. The original Swiss and German settlers arrived in 1869 and their descendants remain. Due to the isolation of the area, the traditions of dance, music, food, and holidays have survived through the generations. Which contains the Helvetia Mask Museum.

Kultur Haus Helvetia is both a building and an organization serving the Helvetia community and its visitors. Food, beverages, ice, household items, ice cream, maple syrup, T-shirts, and much more. Fasnacht masks are displayed throughout the General Store and Alpen Lodge. We are in the process of collecting information on these. One first floor room with a private bath and 4 upstairs bedrooms with a shared bath are now available.

The Helvetia Fasnacht Mask Museum preserves the history and artifacts of Fasnacht. An end-of-winter celebration similar to Mardi Gras. At Fasnacht, participants wear masks to scare away Old Man Winter who is burned on a bonfire at midnight after a candlelight parade and square dance. Fasnacht celebrations are common in Switzerland but rare in the United States. All masks are donations and we owe a tremendous.

Music festival Friday was held Friday, June 24 through Saturday, June 25, 2016 in beautiful Helvetia WV and the 5th will be June 23-24, 2017. We look forward to having another wild and wonderful weekend, full of great music, local food, arts and craft vendors, and the chance to see old, and to meet new friends.
