The Alpen Lodge provides sleeping rooms with shared spaces in Helvetia, WV. The Alpen Lodge is located in the Kultur Haus Helvetia, the building which also houses the General Store, Post Office, and Mask Museum. One downstairs room and five upstairs rooms are currently available. While the upstairs sleeping rooms need little restoration, there is only one bathroom for six sleeping rooms. As funding becomes available, the area will be converted to four corner sleeping rooms, each with a private bath.

Helvetia, West Virginia is a small Swiss village in a high mountain valley. The original Swiss and German settlers arrived in 1869 and their descendants remain. Due to the isolation of the area, the traditions of dance, music, food, and holidays have survived through the generations. Which contains the Helvetia Mask Museum.

The Helvetia Fasnacht Mask Museum preserves the history and artifacts of Fasnacht. An end-of-winter celebration similar to Mardi Gras. At Fasnacht, participants wear masks to scare away Old Man Winter who is burned on a bonfire at midnight after a candlelight parade and square dance. Fasnacht celebrations are common in Switzerland but rare in the United States. All masks are donations and we owe a tremendous.
